Summary
The report describes the transmission planning developments in the UK and in particular the transmission infrastructure supplying London, as recent as 2014.
In particular, this report gives a brief on the transmission and distribution companies in the UK, the transmission infrastructure supplying London comparing to that of Toronto in Ontario, Canada, the network performances of both National Grid Electricity Transmission plc (NGET) and London Power Networks (LPN) the distributor supplying London, the change drivers in the UK transmission system, NGET’s key responses to such drivers both nationally across the whole of UK and regionally in London. Specifically three NGET initiatives to strengthen the UK transmission system both nationally and in London are highlighted.

- There are three transmission companies in the UK and National Grid Electricity Transmission plc (NGET) is responsible for transmission services in England and Wales.
- There are 12 distribution network operators (DNOs) in the UK and London Power Networks (LPN) is the DNO providing distribution services to London.
- London with 10GW of demand is supplied by 6 supply points via 15 transmission circuits at 400kV or 230kV levels with a total network capacity of 25670MVA
