6.0 Drivers in the Singapore Transmission and Distribution System
In managing and developing the transmission and distribution system in Singapore, SPPA/SPPG faces two primary drivers:
- Reliability and Power Quality driver
- Efficiency driver
6.1 Ingrained Reliability Driver for National Economic Survival
Since independence from Malaysia in 1965, Singapore has been striving for its survival as an island state with little natural resources and no support from any hinterland. The top most priority of the Singapore Government was to develop the national economy by attracting foreign direct investments in the form of Multi-National Companies (MNC) setting up manufacturing plants on the island to create employment opportunities to its citizens.
